Today, the Attorney General’s Chambers and Ministry of Legal Affairs under the Support for Criminal Justice System (SCJS) Project funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in collaboration with the University of Guyana launched a First Responders Course: Mental, Neurological and Substantive Abuse Disorder in the Guyana Prison Service.
This programme is intended to train 60 prison officers in the aforementioned disciplines in order to equip them to deal with such cases in the Guyana Prison Service.
Under the SCJS project, the Prison Service has already received from the Ministry of Legal Affairs dozens of computers, printers and furniture for the establishment of a computer laboratory for the training of prisoners in the Guyana Prison Service. This training programme was launched this afternoon at the University of Guyana.
